How To Catalyze Your Fundraising With Regional Data

Learn about Greater Houston Community Foundation’s regional indicators initiative Understanding Houston and how this resource can assist your organization in its fundraising and grant writing efforts. The Understanding Houston website (www.understandinghouston.org) houses data on hundreds of indicators assessing quality of life for the three most populous counties in our region – Fort Bend, Harris, and Montgomery counties. The team will spend some time providing a tutorial on how to use the website and its many features, looking over some of the data, and discussing the data sources used.

Presented by Chelsea Cheung

Chelsea Cheung is Senior Data and Learning Analyst at Greater Houston Community Foundation where she supports the Understanding Houston initiative and administration of disaster funds. Chelsea is currently serving her fifth year on the Board of Directors for Nourish International, a nonprofit organization developing the leadership skills, self-awareness, and confidence of students to become social impact leaders. Previously, as an undergraduate student, Chelsea participated in a summer research fellowship applying hypergraph theory to analyze the correlation between household involvement in school related activities and the utilization of school choice. Additionally, Chelsea was nominated by the Associate Dean of her college to serve as a student lead for UH CARES, an organization created by the university to engage students in assisting low-income households in rebuilding their homes after Hurricane Harvey. Chelsea was elected by her classmates to serve as a Senator representing her college in the Student Government Association (SGA) and went on to be chair of the SGA Student Life Committee and SGA Speaker of the Senate. Chelsea is a graduate of University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) with a B.S. in Applied Statistics and minors in Mathematics and Economics and is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics at UHD. Chelsea has lived in many different cities but sees Houston as her hometown.
