Gift Planning for Everyone Else: A Discussion of Planning Options for Non-Traditional Donors
In this session, Kevin will describe the characteristics of traditional vs. non-traditional planned giving donors. He will discuss non-traditional donor planning issues, such as asset protection, estate administration, and relational and family issues. We will learn about the importance and use of various documents, including durable power of attorney, healthcare power of attorney, advanced healthcare directive, and springing power of attorney. Finally, Kevin will discuss frequently used gift-planning tools and how they can be used effectively with non-traditional donors, with an emphasis on asset control, transfer needs, taxation, and charitable planning.

IRA Gifts – Current and Deferred Giving Opportunities
In this session, Kevin will review the changes in demographics and economics, good vs. bad assets for giving, IRA basics, current giving opportunities (outright gifts, direct charitable distributions, split interest gifts), deferred giving opportunities (beneficiary form, “Poor Man’s Trust”), and finally, he will review red letter language for IRA gifts.

About Kevin Pickett, MBA, CFP®
Kevin Pickett, MBA, CFP® is the Executive Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer at the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation in Tampa, Florida. He joined the Cancer Center in January 2016.
Mr. Pickett will provide the strategic vision for the role of philanthropy at Moffitt, working closely with executive leadership to identify and define the institution’s philanthropic priorities. He will be responsible for cultivating and soliciting donors to provide support for cancer research, patient care and education. Mr. Pickett oversees major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, special events and the operations of Moffitt Foundation.
Mr. Pickett has a combined background in sales and twenty years of fundraising experience. Since 2004, he has been affiliated with organizations dedicated to the cure of cancer. Prior to Moffitt, he served as Executive Director of Development for The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Mr. Pickett led the planned giving and annual fund team which raised more than $40 million annually.
Mr. Pickett received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Biblical Studies from Kentucky Christian University and an MBA from the University of Houston. In 2004, Mr. Pickett attained the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation. He maintains memberships in the National Association of Cancer Center Development Officers and the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy.
